Peru is run by a constitutional republic, which is when officials are elected as representatives of the people. They are limited power over the citizens. Has a Legislative, Judicial, and a Executive Branch. Peru has 24 departments within the Administrative Divisions, and 1 constitutional province (Country Reports). In the executive branch the president of the republic represents international issues. The presidential term is five years and in 2006, Alan Garcia was elected (Country Reports). The Judicial branch is led by the Supreme Court, this is where the 24 departments of Peru lie.
